ABOUT US
DEMOCRACY NORTHLAND
DEMOCRACY NORTHLAND'S SOLE INTEREST IS IN ADVOCATING FOR A STRONG AND VIBRANT DEMOCRACY WERE THE VIEWS OF EVERY COMMUNITY MEMBER IS RESPECTED AND VALUED EQUALLY.
The catalyst to our formation was the decision by the Northland Regional Council (NRC), the Whangarei District Council (WDC), and the Kaipara District Council (KDC) to introduce race-based wards without seeking the opinion of the wider community. To impose such a fundamental change to the way we elect our representatives without asking the community is an outrage in itself, but those councils have gone further and voted against putting this matter to a public referendum. Democracy Northland is now actively campaigning to return public respect to our local councils.
